This study aims to understand the dynamics of social interaction in digital society and the challenges to social cohesion within local communities. The main issue examined is the shift in residents’ communication patterns resulting from the use of digital media in everyday community life. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, limited participant observation, and documentation of digital communication activities as well as community social activities. Research participants were selected purposively, including community leaders, local figures, digital group administrators, youth, and residents active in community social activities and digital communication. The results indicate that residents’ social interactions occur in a hybrid manner through a blend of face-to-face and digital spaces. Key themes identified include shifts in communication patterns, the strengthening of solidarity through digital media, risks of misunderstanding and social fragmentation, the role of local leaders as mediators, and the negotiation of local values in digital spaces. These findings suggest that social cohesion is determined not only by the intensity of digital communication but also by trust, shared norms, cultural values, and community communication governance. This study contributes to the development of an understanding of hybrid social cohesion in digital society. Implicitly, local communities and policymakers need to develop digital literacy grounded in socio-cultural values so that digital spaces can strengthen solidarity rather than weaken social bonds.
